FPFW - handmade basics

You can find gazillion lists on the web, what are the essential wardrobe basics. Some are very basic, some more glamorous and thus longer.
Those lists are a great starting point for sure, but one also has to consider their lifestyle and the climate where they live in addition to their personal style preferences.
And I wont even get into "your color palette"... because that's science guys!

70 per cent of the clothes you own should be meat and potatoes. 30 per cent should be icing and fluff—that's colour, pattern, shine, and accessories. Too many women get the proportions the other way round, then can't figure out why they can't get dressed.

MEAT AND POTATOES

  • Jeans.

Let's face it - we all love a good pair of well fitted jeans. My TNT is of course Ginger Jeans by Closet Case Patterns. If you never ever made jeans, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! Any fitting and assembly questions? Buy Heathers e-book

I think a pair of skinny or straight jeans in black and navy, a pair of boyfriend jeans and maybe a lighter wash for summer in your favourite fit aint too much ;)

  • Basic Tshirts

    Long and short sleeve.
In two or three different colours. Black, white and grey for example.
There are plenty of FREE PDF Tshirt sewing patterns - Tonic Tee when you like a fitted T, Plantain for the looser fit.

Why not to make one up in woven fabric? Fancy! I have no idea why I haven't made a Scout tee yet.

  • Tank tops

Again in different colours/patterns. GREAT for layering under almost anything and over some things ;)

  • Basic casual shirts

Chambray shirts; denim shirts; or you know, everything that isn't dressy
  • Cardigans

    In quality material, please.
This pattern for a slouchy cardy is free!

  • Sweater and /or sweatshirts

Raise your hand if you've ever made a Linden or two! Now sew it in sweater knit.
I've made design No8 from Ottobre Woman A/W 2015 a few times! Love that saddle seam sleeve!
Also, I think their sizing runs a bit big...

  • A Blazer
Apparently, you should own one! Going with a classical notched collar, flap pocket, two buttons shouldn't hurt.

  • Little black dress

ICING AND FLUFF

  • Time to get wild! ANYTHING goes ;)

Now these are the main potatoes that, according to MANY bloggers around the world, get the most wear.

Hey, everyone is different! Everyone's lives are different. And, as I've come to see, your wardrobe really should reflect your lifestyle. Even if it is WAY LESS glamorous than one likes to think ;)
